Dr. Bruce D. LaVant He is currently Director of Programs for the Bridge of Northeast Florida. Prior to taking this position, Dr. Lavant spent 13 years at The University of Louisville as Director of Undergraduate Studies and Professor of Counseling and Educational.
Dr. LaVant received an athletic scholarship Fisk University, Nashville, TN. He received his B.A. Degree in Psychology and Biology and went on to obtain a M.A. degree in Clinical/Neuropsychology from Middle Tennessee State University. After receiving a Doctoral Fellowship, he completed the PhD in Counseling, Student Development and Administration of Higher Education from Iowa State University. He completed post-doctoral training at Harvard University in 1994 in the John F. Kennedy School of Public Policy and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Dr. Lavant has also published several articles and text book chapters on Violence, Organizational change and Leadership development.
Dr. Lavant is an active member of several national and local organizations including the American Association of Psychologists and the National Association of Counseling and Development. Locally he serves on the board of directors for Knots4kids Incorporated, The Jacksonville Kids Coalition and is a member of the Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is a 2005 graduate of the Bank of America Neighborhood Excellence Leadership Program and is a 2007 graduate of Leadership Jacksonville.
Dr. Lavant is a proud native of Jacksonville Florida. His personal interests include spending time with family, jazz concerts and attending Jaguar football games.
