Course Description: This learning module has been designed to increase awareness of the local, national and global employment climate, work cultures and skills needed in the workforce both now and in our future. Students will work through interactive exercises to help deepen their understanding of the importance of job readiness, personal growth and career development.
This course has three recurring themes:
(1) Job readiness: Understanding your strengths, weaknesses, packaging your value and identifying what jobs or industries might be the best 'fit' right now.
(2) Personal responsibility: Embracing your role and responsibility to overcome barriers to winning and sustaining a job.
(3) Continuous learning: Identify employment cultures and jobs that provide a top-down commitment to personal growth and professional development.
After completing this course, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the challenges and opportunities within the employment climate.
2. Identify important knowledge, skills and abilities the boss may look for in a new or existing employee.
3. Recognize the up and down sides of a 'less than ideal' job.
4. Create a personal action plan that charts the course for success.
5. Celebrate a personal commitment to make a meaningful contribution in work, family and the life journey.
